The American Chemical Society (ACS) plans to observe Earth Day on April 22 with a program called Chemists Celebrate Earth Day.  According to their website, they “offer a suite of events, contests and educational resources that can be used by chemical educators and enthusiasts to illustrate the positive role that chemistry plays in the world.  This program began in 2003 and highlights one of four topics (water, air, plants/soil, or recycling) every year.

ACS will kick off the seventh anniversary of Chemists Celebrate Earth Day with the theme of “Plants-The Green Machines!” The organization encourages people to plant their own green machines and send in photos to be counted. ACS is also organizing an illustrated poem contest for students in grades K-12.
